Chief Deputy Ben Fall Appointed to Norman County Sheriff Position
Ada, MN — The Norman County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to appoint Chief Deputy Ben Fall as the new Sheriff of Norman County during their board meeting Thursday morning. Sheriff Fall will take over the office previously held by former Sheriff Jeremy Thornton, who passed away on January 5th of cancer just days after taking the oath of office. He was sworn into office immediately after the appointment. Sheriff Fall will hold the office for the remainder of the term, which ends in 2026, and there will be no special election. Fall has been Chief Deputy of Norman County since 2015 and has been in law enforcement since 2002.
Norman County Board of Commissioners Chair Steve Bommersbach says Sheriff Fall’s experience is what led the commissioners to their decision.
Sheriff Fall admits that he has some big shoes to fill.
One of his biggest priorities as the new Sheriff of Norman County is to get back to being fully staffed as a department so they can serve residents of the county to the best of their ability.
There was some debate amongst commissioners whether or not an appointment to Sheriff needed to be done right away or if they should wait, but Commissioner Bommersbach stated it was important to do because otherwise there would be no backup in charge if something were to happen to the Chief Deputy.
Sheriff Fall will bring a recommendation for his Chief Deputy at a future commission meeting.
Fall is also the Mayor of Twin Valley, but announced he will resign from the position.
