City of Ada Transitions Away from Off Peak Service
Ada, MN — The City of Ada will no longer be offering an Off-Peak service starting in January 2023. As part of Off Peak Service, certain high-usage appliances, but most often electric heating sources, could be controlled during high demand times in exchange for a cheaper rate. But plans have been in place for the City of Ada to eliminate the service since 2017 as homeowners’ transition away from electric heat and appliances have become more efficient. Ada Public Works Director Brian Rasmussen talks more about the benefits of Off-Peak and why the city is moving away from it.
Coming January, Ada residents signed up for Off Peak will no longer receive the lower rate and will still have to pay for both meters, but Rasmussen says they can save some money by switching back to one meter at their own cost.
Rasmussen didn’t have exact figures but estimates it would cost between $500 and $3000 to switch to one meter depending on how complex your off-peak system is.
