City of Aitkin proposes 1-percent sales tax to State Legislators, conversation with Mayor Workman included

(Aitkin, MN) — The City of Aitkin made their voice heard in front of State legislators with a presentation of a 1-percent sales tax among other items, after speaking to Aitkin Mayor Megan Workman in our most recent conversation.

Mayor Workman laid out the process of the sales tax proposal and its impact to the Aitkin community.

The proposal is before the Legislature for their approval at the end of the current Session, which then would go to the Aitkin residents for their vote.

The sales tax would aid the City in areas of property tax, the City Park project, and other key issues.

Mayor Workman noted specific areas the funds generated from this sales tax would have to go into.

Workman also mentioned the overall purpose would be able to round off long standing projects the City has not been able to fully address.
