CRMC Nurse honored with ‘Quilt of Valor’

In recognition and honor of her long-time military service, Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Registered Nurse Theresa Blomer of Pequot Lakes was awarded the Quilt of Valor on July 18 in a surprise ceremony at CRMC. She currently serves as the Command Post Superintendent in the 133rd Airlift Wing of the Minnesota Air National Guard stationed at Minneapolis-Saint Paul.

Blomer has served in the Air National Guard of the U.S. Air Force for 24 years. She joined the North Dakota Air National Guard her senior year of high school where she served until 2012 when she transferred to the Minnesota Air National Guard. Blomer has been in Command and Control her entire military career through multiple temporary duties and most recently a deployment to Kuwait.  She was also the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Console Operations while deployed with the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

The quilt, made by the local chapter of Quilts of Valor in Aitkin, Minn., is managed through the Ripple River Quilt Guild which began making Quilts of Valor five years ago. To date, the organization has awarded over 450 quilts throughout Minnesota. Quilts of Valor began in 2003 to provide comfort to patients at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and has chapters located all over the U.S.

A member of CRMC’s staff since 2011, Blomer has served as a Registered Nurse on CRMC’s Intensive Care and Medical/Surgical units the past eight years. She previously worked as a charge nurse at Lakewood Care Center in Staples and Good Samaritan Society in Pine River and as a hospice aid at Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice in Brainerd. Blomer earned an Associate of Science degree in Nursing, diploma in Practical Nursing, and an Associate in Arts degree at Central Lakes College. She also earned an Associate degree in Applied Science, Emergency Management, at the Community College of the Air Force.
