DEA Omaha Division seized record number of Fentayal in 2023
The Drug Enforcement Administration Omaha Division which covers Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Iowa announced that they have seized a record number of Fentanyl in 2023 with the largest increase happening in Minnesota.
According to the report the DEA Omaha Division seized more than 417,000 fentanyl pills in Minnesota during 2023 which is a 127% increase from 2022. North Dakota also saw a significant increase in seizures with over 64,000 fentanyl pills seized which is a 50% increase compared to 2022.
Nationwide the DEA has seen the fentanyl problem get worse with over 77 million fentanyl pills being seized by the DEA in 2023 which is equal to 386 million lethal doses. Two milligrams on fentanyl is considered a potentially fatal dose.
The report also claims that Fentynal overdose is the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 18-45 with the number expected to grow.
