Dekko Hot Tub Problems Boiling Over
Ada, MN — The city of Ada and the Dekko Center has found themselves in an uncomfortable situation with a leaky hot tub and a depleted maintenance fund. The Ada City Council has had some discussion in recent months about how they want to proceed with the hot tub at their Dekko Community Center, which currently works, but requires significant maintenance. This is just after the city spent $12,000 to repair the steam room and around $90,000 to fix a water damaged racquetball court. Ada City Administrator Ashley Larson says its really a matter of time before it needs to be completely replaced.
The estimated cost for replacement of the hot tub is between $60,000 and $80,000. The Dekko Community Center does have a maintenance fund that was established when it was built in the early 1990s. The fund had 500,000 when it was started and over the years has dwindled down. If they were to use that fund to replace the hot tub it would be completely wiped out, so Larson says they will be seeking out other methods to pay for a replacement.
An event is being planned for some time in May to kickstart the fundraising process for a new hot tub. The Ada City Council will be discussing the event and the hot tub during their regular monthly meeting this Tuesday, March 8th.
