Destiny Piekarski Wins Offensive Player of the Week heading into Regional Tournament
Littlefork native, Destiny Piekarski, middle blocker for Minnesota North College – Rainy River, earned the MCAC North Division Offensive Athlete of the Week award for the week of Oct. 21st-27th. Piekarski had 37 kills in her 12 sets played, averaging 3.08 kills per set. She hit .309 and served three aces to lead her team into the NJCAA North Plains District 13B Tournament. We got to ask her how she felt when she got the news.
Speaking of Regionals, who will the Voyageurs be facing?
Earlier this week, Rainy River had played Mesabi Range for one final game before looking ahead to the playoffs. The Voyageurs got a dominant 3-0 win over the home team, and Piekarski was asked if that win gave the team a needed boost in morale.
What’s gonna be the keys to finding success at Regionals.
Destiny Piekarski joins Kaden Korpi as the only other Voyageur player to win an MCAC weekly award, Korpi having won the defensive award the previous week. For prior weeks Coach Shelby Nosan had begun to release her own Coach’s Choice awards weekly. So Destiny was asked if that might’ve helped push for the MCAC to start awarding Rainy River players.
Sadly, at the recent home scrimmage for Women’s Basketball, freshman Jocelyn Copeland had suffered an injury. Does Destiny think this might affect the team in Regionals?
The Voyageurs hit the road for Anoka-Ramsey to play Century in the first round of the Regional Tournament. It takes place on November 1st and 2nd.
