Elizabeth Brainard Discusses New Roles as Norman County Attorney
Ada, MN — Newly elected Norman County Attorney Elizabeth Brainard took the oath office on January 3rd and after a few weeks of getting her feet wet in the new position, she joined the KRJB Kaleidoscope Program to talk about the new role and her goals moving forward. She noted that one thing that is unusual about the County Attorney position in Norman County is the balance between prosecuting and being a legal advisor for the county is far different from other counties.
Brainard states that one of her goals as the new Norman County Attorney is to get more involvement in the DWI Court, something that was launched by former Norman County Attorney James Brue, and work on launching a Drug Court as well.
Brainard adds that the DWI Court and Drug Court programs aren’t intended to be an easy way of avoiding jail time, but instead require a great deal of commitment to rehabilitation from the offender for success.
Another goal for Brainard is to modernize and digitize the County Attorney’s Office.
