Edgeley at Northern Cass
The Northern Cass Jaguars opened their 11B Region 1 schedule Friday with a 21-13 victory over Ellendale-Edgeley-Klum at a rain-soaked Northern Cass.
All of the game’s scoring came in the second quarter. EEK scored first, driving 60 yards in nine plays and scoring on a six yard run by Isaiah Carruth. Mason Molan’s extra point made it 7-0 for the Thunder. But on the ensuing kickoff, the Jaguars’ Landon Moser ran it back 68 yards to tie the game at 7 with Reed Volden’s PAT.
After EEK had a fumbled snap on a punt, Northern Cass took over at the Thunder 28 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Julian Leichtenberg connected with Andrew Schenck on a 28 yard TD pass. The extra point made it 14-7 Jaguars with 6:45 left in the half.
On the Jaguars’ next possession, Joseph Kramlich intercepted a Leichtenberg pass and returned it approximately 20 yards for a touchdown. Molan’s extra point kick was blocked, keeping Northern Cass in the lead 14-13 with 2:29 to go in the half.
Northern Cass responded with a four play, 55 yard drive that ended with Matthew Hoppe’s 25 yard touchdown run. That made it 21-13 Jaguars, with 0:56 left in the half.
The first half ended with Schenck intercepting a Jacob Nitschke pass…keeping the score at 21-13.
The second half was scoreless. Northern Cass got as far as the EEK six yard line in the fourth quarter, but was unable to score.
Northern Cass is now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in region play. The Jaguars play at Central Cass next Friday. You can see that game on YourLiveEvent.com.
EEK drops to 0-2 overall and in the region. The Thunder host Lisbon next Friday in Ellendale.
