Hillsboro-Central Valley 10, Maple River 0 (5 innings)
Sophomore Riley Richter pitched a four-hit shutout to lead Hillsboro/Central Valley to a 10-0 win over Maple River Saturday in the opening round of the North Dakota Class B Region 2 baseball tournament at Mayville State University.
The Burros opened the game with two first inning runs, brought in through a Cole Hebl triple and Andrew Dullum double. They scored four more in the third inning with a Caleb Hatlestad sacrifice fly, a two run single by Tyson Leshuk and an rbi single by James Fortman. HCV added to their lead with two unearned runs in the fourth inning and scored two more in the fifth, with Hebl’s rbi grounder bringing in the game-ending run.
Offensively, HCV stole 13 bases with two each by Dullum, Leshuk, Fortman and Gavin Beliles. Hebl was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and two rbi.
Richter allowed just four hits, no walks, with seven strikeouts.
HCV advances to the Region 2 quarterfinals later on Saturday against MayPort-CG.
Maple River will now face Hatton-Northwood in the consolation round of the double elimination tournament Monday at Mayville State.
