Hatton-Northwood 3, Larimore 2

Hatton-Northwood rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to beat Larimore 3-2 Saturday in the opening round of the North Dakota Class B Region 2 baseball tournament at Mayville State University.

Thunder shortstop Derek Carpenter led off the bottom of the seventh by being hit with a pitch.  He stole second base, then third…and when Larimore catcher Dyllan Rethemeier’s throw to third was wild, Carpenter scored the game-winning run.

Larimore had taken a 2-0 first inning lead on a two-run single by third baseman Jace Collison.  The lead held up thanks to the strong pitching of senior Jacob Warnke, who struck out five consecutive Hatton-Northwood batters in the second and third innings.

The Thunder got on the board in the fourth on an unearned run….then tied the game in the sixth on Rolando Zuniga’s rbi single.

Hatton-Northwood’s Teddy Peterick was the winning pitcher with 15 strikeouts, with a run of five straight strikeouts in the first and second innings and a run of six in a row in the third, fourth and fifth.
