Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal 65 at Red lake Falls 63 OT

Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal rallied from a 12 point halftime deficit to defeat Red Lake Falls 65-63 in overtime Monday night in Red Lake Falls.

Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal struggled with their shooting in the first half and a late run allowed the Eagles to go ahead 29-17 at halftime.  But in the second half, the Titans bolted to a 13-0 start and took their first lead at 30-29.  The game turned into a see-saw affair.  The Titans’ Tianna Swanson made a three-pointer to tie the game at 50.  Then with 26.9 seconds left in regulation, RLF’s Brooklyn Cardinal made one of two free throws to put the Eagles ahead by a point.  On the other end of the court, Chloe Abraham scored a basket to put the Titans up 52-51 with 13 seconds remaining.  Then with 6.7 seconds left in regulation, Cardinal made the first of two free throws to tie the score at 52..but missed the second.

Into the overtime, the game was tied at 57 when the Titans’ Annabelle Begg made a free throw to break the tie with 1:50 to play.  Then, NCE/U-H’s Izzy Klemetson scored a basket with 59.7 seconds left to make it 60-57.  Shandi Nelson scored a basket for the Eagles to make it a one point game…but on the play when she scored, she committed a foul.  At the other end, the Titans’ Swanson made two free throws to make it a three point lead again with 32.8 seconds left in OT.  On the Eagles’ next possession, Klemetson stole the ball and drove for a layup to seal the victory for the Titans.

Klemetson led Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal with 24 points, Swanson added 16 and Begg had 12 off the Titans’ bench.

Lexi Swendra had 16 to lead Red Lake Falls.  Shandi Nelson had 13 points and Gabby Casavan 12 for the Eagles.

Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal is now 9-11 overall; Red Lake Falls is now 9-12.
