Junior Mike Gapp rushed for 222 yards and two touchdowns, while fellow running back Mantana Jorgenson ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass as Polk County West defeated Warroad 36-16 Friday night in Climax.

The Thunder took the opening kickoff and drove 63 yards in six plays, capped by Gapp’s five yard touchdown run.  Gapp also had a 34 yard run in the drive.

Polk County West added to their 7-0 lead early in the second quarter when Jorgenson ran eleven yards for a score to make it 14-0.  The highlight of the drive was a one-handed catch by tight end Landon Denney–one of two such catches he would make on the night.

After Jorgenson recovered a Warroad fumble, the Thunder drove 48 yards for another score with Jorgenson finishing the drive with a two yard TD run.  PCW led 21-0 at halftime.

Warroad suffered a blow early in the third quarter when senior running back Gaabi Boucha left the game with an injury.  Boucha ran for 51 yards on ten carries.

The Thunder scored again in the third quarter with Gapp scoring from seven yards out.  The snap on the extra point was botched, and the score was 27-0, PCW after three.

Early in the fourth quarter, PCW got a safety when the snap to Warroad punter Ben Norris went over his head and Norris alertly kicked the ball out of the end zone to concede a safety, rather than a possible touchdown.  The Thunder’s lead was 29-0 with just over nine minutes to play.

From the ensuing free kick, PCW quarterback Breck Bloom connected with Jorgenson on a 42 yard touchdown pass.  Eli Wellumson’s PAT made it 36-0 with 5:49 to play.

Warroad got on the board on a 40 yard touchdown run by Norris.  Zach Rose ran for a two point conversion to make the score 36-8 with 3:40 to go.

The Warriors scored again when freshman Ryan Chamernick recovered a PCW fumble at the Thunder 17 yard line.  On the next play, fellow freshman Logan Brodshaug ran for a touchdown and also added the two point conversion, making the final score 36-16.
