Fishing on Rainy Lake
With Memorial Day Weekend in just a few days, of course people in our area, and coming into our area, will be fishing. Conservation Officer, Darrin Kittleson of the MN Department of Natural Resources first explains the Fishing Limit that is imposed on Rainy Lake.
Your limit is HALF walleye. As far as the concerns due to the lower snow levels this year, CO Officer Kittleson was asked if that is a concern with the Department of Natural Resources.
Everyone needs a life jacket, and then if you are on a 16ft boat or bigger, a throwable cushion, or a TYPE4, is also needed per person in the boat. These cushions should be in every boat no matter what the size.
There are many different life jackets on the market. Be sure to read up on the jackets before purchasing and using.
Also there are life jackets being sold online. Please make sure they are coast guard certified before purchasing. For Memorial Weekend, and anytime you are on the lake, Conservation Officer Kittleson has this safety advice.
Lastly, don’t forget the fire extinguisher
Rainy Lake is a beautiful place to fish and enjoy the waters. Get your gear ready and Enjoy. And Fish!
