Governor Walz Comments on Push for Legalization of Marijuana
St. Paul, MN — Could the state of Minnesota be the next to legalize recreational marijuana? Democratic legislators and Governor Tim Walz are making a strong push this session in hopes that it will. During a conversation this past week with R & J News, Governor Walz stated that marijuana use is already happening here in Minnesota, and by making it legal you can regulate it, help eliminate disparities, and free up resources that are tied up currently trying police it.
However, just like alcohol, recreational marijuana will need to be used responsibly. While he’s for legalization, Governor Walz as a parent says he won’t be encouraging his children to use it.
The Recreational Marijuana bill introduced in the House would allow people to possess up to two ounces of recreational marijuana and grow up to eight plants for personal use. It would also expunge those convicted of low-level cannabis crimes.
