Halstad City Council Discusses Concerns Over Sheriff’s Contract & Increases in Crime
Halstad, MN — The Halstad City Council held their regular monthly meeting on Monday night, April 11th. One of the items again up for discussion was their law enforcement contract with the Norman County Sheriff’s Office. Halstad Mayor Darin Johnson says last month several citizens voiced concerns about lack of patrolling and response at their meeting last month and the council is trying to find the best way to move forward.
The discussion over the Sheriff’s contract was brought up following an assault and brief manhunt that occurred at the New North Properties Apartments a few months ago. Mayor Johnson says those apartments, which have since been vacated, have been a problem for the city for a while.
And to avoid rental properties such as the New North Apartments from becoming havens for crime, Johnson says the city will be taking action with their ability to inspect them and make sure they are being kept up.
The Halstad City Council meets on the 2nd Monday of each month.
