Hawley School Board Planning for Fall Referendum to Address Needs of Growing District
Hawley, MN — Due to the continued growth over the last several years, the Hawley School Board has agreed to move forward with planning for a building referendum this November. However, the scope of the potential project remains to be seen. Hawley Superintendent Phil Jensen says that could mean expansion or it could mean constructing a new school, but they intend to finalize those plans over the course of the next month.
The Hawley School District recently wrapped up a facility needs assessment with InGensa, which examined their current facility capacities, interior and exterior condition of buildings, and demographics. While their buildings and grounds are in good condition, Superintendent Jensen says they are running out of room and incoming class sizes are getting even bigger.
A community engagement meeting is scheduled for May 25th, where they plan to release their plans for this fall’s referendum.
