Hawley Schools Celebrates PBIS Week; National Paraprofessional Week
Hawley, MN — There’s a lot to celebrate this week in the Hawley Elementary with it being both PBIS Week and National Paraprofessional Appreciation Week. PBIS, which stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports, is a set of ideas and tools that schools use to improve students’ behavior by rewarding good behavior versus punishing bad behavior. Hawley Elementary Principal Chris Ellingson shares how they’ll be celebrating the program with students.
This week is also National Paraprofessional Appreciation Week, a week set aside to recognize the important role paraprofessionals play in our education system, according to Principal Ellingson.
According to the Minnesota Department of Education, Minnesota is home to more than 20,000 paraprofessionals who provide services in multiple settings within schools, including support for instruction, student activities, and individual students, as well as numerous other tasks that contribute to educational success.
