Healthy Homes Initiative Helping Provide Safe & Healthy Homes for Norman, Mahnomen, & Polk County Residents
Ada, MN — Every person deserves a home that promotes their health and this weekend on the Access Health Program, we’ll chat with Polk-Norman-Mahnomen Public Health’s Nurse Tracy Johnson about their Healthy Homes Initiative that does just that.
Johnson says Healthy Homes started to help families with asthma make healthy changes in the home to prevent triggers and eventually expanded to look at fall risks, health hazards for individuals in the home, and more.
Johnson says these Healthy Homes visits are completely judgement free and they are there to offer up education and possible assistance when needed to improve the health of the home.
Healthy homes looks at 7 factors that can impact the health of a home: keep it dry, keep it clean, keep it pest free, keep it safe, contaminate free, ventilated, and well maintained. Johnson says she notices different issues in different communities.
