Hibbing 6, Ada 5 (10 innings)
HIBBING, MN—
In a way it was worth the wait, but in a way it wasn’t. Hibbing defeated the Ada A’s 6-5 in ten innings Sunday in their rain delayed Region 10C baseball quarterfinal in Hibbing.
Hibbing strung together four hits plus an error and a wild pitch to score four runs in the second inning for an early lead. That held up until the sixth, when the A’s used five hits and two Miner errors to go ahead 5-4 with Brennan Fetting’s rbi single putting Ada in the lead.
Then in the bottom of the ninth, Hibbing had a runner on third with two out when Mike Belich singled to bring in the tying run, making the score 5-5.
In the bottom of the tenth, Riley Resnick came on to pitch in relief of A’s starter Jake Osowski. A walk was sandwiched between two Hibbing outs. Then the next three Hibbing batters walked, with Nick Peters forcing in Gideon Brock with the run that gave the Miners a 6-4 victory.
After the game, A’s Coach Mike Erickson admitted it was the kind of game that makes people baseball fans.
Erickson praised his team, including starting pitcher Jake Osowski, who went 9 innings, allowing 9 hits, 5 runs (3 earned), 2 walks and 3 wild pitches with 10 strikeouts.
Nick Johnson was one for 4 with a 2-run double in the A’s 5-run sixth inning.
Hibbing’s Nick Peters was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 rbi. Mike Belich was 2 for 4 with 2 rbi. Lane Gerber was the winning pitcher, throwing all ten innings, with 8 hits allowed, 5 runs (2 earned), 3 walks, a hit batter and 6 strikeouts.
Ada (13-8) will now play Hawley in an elimination game in the double elimination tournament Tuesday night at 7:30 at Tony Sipe Field. Hawley lost to Dilworth 13-5 on Sunday.
Hibbing (13-5) played Dilworth Sunday night in the championship round of the tournament.
