Hillsboro City Commission Holds Public Meeting for Proposed Citywide Paving Project
Hillsboro, ND — The Hillsboro City Commission held a public town hall for their proposed $12 million citywide paving project on Tuesday night, March 22nd at the Main Street Community Center. The city had hoped to do the project this summer if grant funding was available but will now wait until 2023 when some of current assessments will come off the tax role. Hillsboro Commission President Terry Sando says much of discussion from the public last week was around calculating assessment costs and making sure the assessments were fair.
Sando estimates that a standard average lot would be assessed $64 a month, while an average corner lot would be assessed $89 a month.
Overall the streets in Hillsboro are on average in OK condition, but there are still several that are in poor condition and many of streets if even in good condition are having drainage issues, according to President Sando.
By doing the project all at once instead of phases, Sando hopes to save on construction costs. However he is worried that by waiting until next year that they could see a big increase in material costs.
