Hillsboro School Board approves Referendum special election in September
7-26-23
Hillsboro, ND – Building for the future was on the mind of nearly 40 residents of the Hillsboro-Central Valley School District Tuesday during a public meeting on a potential school building referendum.
Superintendent, Paula Suda, began the meeting with an overview of results from a District-wide survey sent out in March. Twenty-two percent responded to the survey. Of those that responded, nearly fifty-eight percent were in favor of a bond referendum totalling fourteen million dollars.
Suda says based on the survey, some adjustments to the original proposal needed to be made.

Following Suda’s opening remarks, Todd Blixt of Icon Architectural Group and Mike Barsness of Kraus-Anderson, discussed in detail the proposed designs and projected pathways budgets respectively. Major components of the designs included new spaces for music, shop, and Family Arts and Consumer Sciences programs. Improvements to existing structures would include the girls locker room, entrance security, and overall accessibility.
School Board President, Tim Kozojed (KO-ZET) said, “Sometimes it takes a little bit of movement to get that snowball rolling. This would be a great first shove…If we get there, we’re going to have a dandy of a school.”
Following an ample amount of public input, the board met in a separate special meeting, approving the initial resolution for general obligation school building bonds at twelve million dollars. The board also set September 26th as the date for the special election to vote on the referendum.
