Hillsboro School to Hold Special Election to Raise Debt Limit
Hillsboro, ND — The Hillsboro School Board held their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, November 10th. The meeting was held via Zoom due to the winter weather and poor road conditions. At the meeting the Hillsboro School Board agreed to host a special election later this winter in an attempt to raise their debt limit from 5% to 10%, which Superintendent Suda says they will need to do if they do go forward with building referendum vote down the road.
Superintendent Suda says by hosting a special election on its own instead of with a referendum vote, it eliminates any potential confusion or one passing without the other.
To help eliminate their current debt and expand their debt limit a little more, the school board voted in favor of using sales tax funding to pay off the principal of a previous loan in the amount $170,000. Suda says if they decide to move forward with building a new school, costs are going to be high, hence the need to free up as much debt as possible.
And at this week’s meeting, the Hillsboro School Board approved hiring a new migrant tutor as well.
Superintendent Suda also reminds families to please alert the office if they have changes to their contact office so they will continue to get alerts for future snow days.
