Ice Fishing Season is Coming!
With the first snow of this new winter season upon us, and the temperatures below freezing, it can only mean that very soon we shall see ice fishing huts out on the local lakes and rivers. So we reached out to Phil Talmage, the Area Fisheries Supervisor with the DNR, and asked him when the ice fishing can begin.
Luckily, the DNR has resources to know when it’s safe to go out on the ice as Phil tells us more on that.
He even shares some tips to take heed of with safety precautions in mind.
Now what are the rules and regulations on the fish? Because the two most popular, as Talmage tells us, or Walleye and Pike.
And the population of those popular fish have numbers that look promising, so he tells us some of the results from the netting surveys.
Of course, you’ll even find Phil out there on the ice once it’s safe enough to go out.
He was then asked about the options for fish houses for those who may not have their own.
At the end of the day, everyone is encouraged to go out and enjoy some time ice fishing, and to stay safe while doing so.
Be sure to bundle up too! It’s cold outside.
