Local Law Enforcement Being Equipped with New, State-of-the-Art AEDs
Mahnomen, MN — Thanks to a donation from the Hemsley Charitable Trust and the University of Minnesota, a number of local law enforcement agencies are now being equipped with new, state-of-the-art AED’s in all their vehicles. The Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office, Ada Police, Twin Valley Police, and Norman County Sheriff’s Office are among those who attended a training together earlier this week on the new lifesaving equipment. Mahnomen County Sheriff Josh Guenther says this is part of a 3-year project to equip every law enforcement agency in the nation with an AED.
Sheriff Guenther adds that this project is a great opportunity for law enforcement, who are typically the first on scene during health emergencies.
An AED, or Automated External Defibrillator, is a medical device designed to analyze the heart rhythm and deliver an electrical shock to victims in an attempt to restore the heart rhythm to normal, according to Guenther.
The new AEDs being equipped with the local law enforcement agencies cost around $2,000 each.
