Mahnomen County Sets Preliminary Levy at 8%
Mahnomen, MN — The Mahnomen County Board of Commissioners approved the preliminary 2023 levy last month with a proposed increase of 8%. The preliminary levy can go down but cannot be increased. Mahnomen County Administrator CJ Holl says sizable levy increases will be the norm this year due to inflation driving up the cost of just about everything.
The average levy increase in the state of Minnesota last year was 3.7%, but Holl estimates that number will be closer to 6% this year.
If the county sets the final levy at 8%, that doesn’t necessarily mean your property taxes will increase 8%. Holl says the county is just one of the driving factors and variables when it comes to your property taxes.
Mahnomen County will hold their Truth-in Taxation and set the final levy sometime in December.
