CROOKSTON, MN—A Crookston man is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after police say he threatened and assaulted four juveniles in an alleyway.  28-year-old Casey Kelly was charged Monday in Polk County Court with a felony count of threats of violence and two misdemeanor counts of fifth-degree assault. The charges stem from an October 17 incident near 8th Street West.

According to court documents, police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting fighting around 7:13 p.m. last Friday. Officers found Kelly and a female companion running through an alley. Kelley had blood on his forehead and told officers that the teens had beaten him up.  Four juveniles, who were all either 14 or 15 years old, told police that they were walking home through an alleyway when Kelly yelled at them to stay out of the road. They then say that Kelly claimed it was “his block” and went after them.

Kelly reportedly punched one of the teens in the back multiple times and then struck another with a closed fist in the shoulder area. When the juveniles tried to restrain Kelly, he grabbed one by the hair and said he was going to “rip your throat out”, according to court documents.  The teens called 911 during the altercation. Officers noted that they appeared visibly shaken, and one was crying while describing what happened.  Kelly admitted to drinking a pint of vodka earlier in the day. Officers described him as upset, emotional, and swearing during questioning.
