Many Fire Departments Hosting Open Houses During National Fire Prevention Week
Mahnomen, MN — Join the National Fire Protection Association and fire departments around the country in celebrating National Fire Prevention Week, October 9th – 15th. As part of that, firemen and women will be hosting outreach and educational events throughout the week. Locally, several fire departments are hosting open houses where they welcome people into their fire hall to get an up-close look at their gear and can get to know the people who volunteer to serve the community in times of crisis.
The Mahnomen Fire Department will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, October 12th. Mahnomen Fire Chief Adam Woltjer says they’ll doing demonstrations, giving away prizes, and showing off their recent Fire Hall renovation that was completed earlier this year.
The Hitterdal Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their annual Safety Supper this Wednesday at the Hitterdal Fire Hall. Fire Chief Brian Nelson says stop for something to eat and chat with both current and retired members of the Hitterdal Fire Department.
These open houses are also a great opportunity to learn more about what it takes to be a fireman and how you can join. Nelson says almost all rural departments could use more members.
The Halstad Fire Department also plans on celebrating National Fire Prevention Week with an open house on Wednesday, October from 5:30 to 7pm at the Fire Hall. This will be an opportunity to try on the turnout gear, see the fire trucks, receive information about fire prevention, and enjoy burgers and hotdogs.
The theme for this year’s National Fire Prevention Week is Fire Won’t Wait, Plan Your Escape.
Listen for interviews with area fire chiefs throughout the week on KRJB and KRJM.
