Aitkin, MN (October 26, 2022) – Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union (MMFCU) is dedicated to giving back to the communities we serve. Every quarter, we live out our value of ‘Sense of Community’ and the credit union philosophy of People Helping People through our financial education programs, grant committee, social responsibility committees, and scholarships.

MMFCU staff spent over 30 hours this quarter teaching financial education to 232 people in our communities. Some of the organizations that received financial education include PORT Group Homes, MN Adult and Teen Challenge, and the Mille Lacs Entrepreneur Program. In September, staff provided financial education to Brainerd High School, Brainer Learning Center, and Staples Alternative School. MMFCU’s Chief Technology Officer Chris Tangen spoke with community members about online safety at Ada’s National Night Out. The Aitkin office served as a community host for a Red Cross blood drive on September 2nd.

On September 7, 17 MMFCU staff facilitated a Poverty Simulation for local non-profit board of directors and executives. 45 people attended and gained a new perspective on what it’s like living in poverty. One of the participants, a business owner, said, “This gives me a lot to think about with my own employees.”

MMFCU’s grant committee donated $2,000 to the Alexandria YMCA, $1,000 to Lakes Area Restorative Justice for group conferences and $5,000 to PORT Group Homes for building updates.

MMFCU’s social responsibility committees donated $7,270 to many great organizations this quarter. Check out who your local office donated to below!
