Minnesota Department of Commerce
The Minnesota Department of Commerce has fined Salvasen Health and its affiliates, as well as owner Barry Glenn, a total of $553,000. They have also been ordered to stop their operations in the state. The companies were not licensed to do business in Minnesota, meaning they couldn’t legally sell health insurance plans to consumers here but did so, anyway. An investigation in 2022 revealed that Salvasen & affiliates offered unapproved health plans in Minnesota and failed to pay claims for covered services. Minnesota consumers with concerns, questions or complaints about health insurance plans are encouraged to contact Commerce’s Consumer Service Center or go to consumer.protection@state.mn.us.
The Minnesota Department of Commerce announced the results of a review of HealthPartners’ business practices. The company will have to revamp its processes and policies to ensure coverage for mental health care is equivalent to coverage for medical or surgical care. HealthPartners’ systemic changes will remove obstacles and expand access to mental health care for Minnesotans.
