Minnesota Department of Health adds three new conditions to Newborn Screening ProgramĀ
The Minnesota Department of Health announced yesterday that they will be adding three new conditions to their Newborn Screening Program. The MN Department of Health routinely screens all babies born in the State of Minnesota for more than 60 different health conditions so that they can identify and treat conditions early in life.
The three new conditions being added to the program include GAMT which is a disorder that can lead to neurological problems like seizures, intellectual disability, behavior problems and limited speech development. MPS II (Hunter Syndrome) which affects many body systems including the muscles, skin, eyes and nerves, and Krabbe Disease which causes muscle stiffness, blindness and deafness.
These three disorders will be screened once a screening process and plan is developed.
