Minnesota DNR Encourages Boaters and Paddlers to Keep Safety & Etiquette in Mind This Memorial Day Weekend
Minnesota — Memorial Day weekend is the start of the busy boating season in Minnesota and whether you are lounging on a pontoon or riding the rapids in a kayak, the Minnesota DNR is asking boaters to follow proper safety protocol and boating etiquette. Lisa Dugan, DNR Safety Outreach Coordinator encourages boaters to go through the checklist and make sure your boat is equipped with the required safety equipment.
In addition to the required safety items, Dougan also reminds boaters to use good boating etiquette when out on the water.
Kayakers and Canoers planning a fun river adventure should also be aware that most of the area’s rivers are still very high and the current is very strong, which can create dangerous situations for paddlers.
Dugan also encourages boaters or paddlers to bring a friend with on your expedition for some added safety and to always let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return.
