Minnesota State Patrol Conducting HEAT Patrols to Curb Aggressive Driving
Minnesota — The Minnesota State Patrol is continuing to turn up the HEAT on highways and freeways across the state. HEAT stands for Highway Enforcement for Aggressive Traffic and its part of campaign to increase their presence and target excessive speeding and reduce fatal accidents on Minnesota roadways, according to Sargent Jesse Grabow of the Minnesota State Patrol.
Each HEAT Patrol typically results in dozens of speeders being pulled over by officers. Sgt. Grabow notes that its not just about writing tickets, its about educating drivers and preventing them from speeding again.
The month of April is Distracted Driving Awareness month, and the State Patrol is also stepping up their efforts to get drivers to put down their phones and focus on the road.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, there have been 80 fatalities on Minnesota roadways this year, which is down from 101 at the same time last year.
