(Aitkin, MN) — Today (April 28th) is Minnesota Workers Memorial Day and is a yearly remembrance of Minnesota Department of Transportation employees and contract workers that have been killed and injured on the job. We recently spoke with Aitkin County Engineer John Welle about Work Zone Safety and traveling through the busy time of the construction season.

Welle noted that most work zone incidents on Minnesota roadways, and even nationally, affect motorists more than workers themselves.

The time of day for a work zone doesn’t change the need to obersive posted signs and speed limits.

Speed is the ultimate issue that concerns safety in the work zone.

Taking precautions of not being distracted, being patient, expecting delays/changes, observing posted signs, never entering a blocked road, and other helpful information can be found online.
