MN DOT Takes Advantage of Calm Weather to Continue Clean Up and Prevent Future Drifting

Crookston, MN — The Minnesota Department of Transportation is getting defensive to help with the blowing snow issues in the Red River Valley. Along Highway 200 and Highway 2 you may have noticed the DOT maintenance crews constructing make shift fences out of snow and moving snow away from the roadways. District 2 MNDOT Maintenance Engineer Paul Konickson says they are taking advantage of the nice weather now to get caught up and help prevent future drifting from happening when the winds pick back up.

Konickson adds that the conditions this year, specifically the low visibility in the Red River Valley, have made it very difficult for their plow drivers to clear the roadways during winter storms. He notes there lots of hazards, including other drivers, they have to deal with when called upon in the early morning hours.

Konickson says that their plow drivers are very well experienced when it comes to driving in terrible winter conditions, so when they get pulled off the road due to visibility, everyone else should probably take note that its not safe to drive.
