MN Senators Speak Against Proposed Transfer Of White Earth State Forest Land
ST. PAUL, MN—Here’s an update to a story R&J News has been following. Two Minnesota State Senators have spoken out against a proposed transfer of White Earth State Forest land to the White Earth Band. Senators Rob Kupec of Moorhead and Grant Hauschild of Hermantown, both Democrats, issued a statement Thursday saying “We understand the desire of the involved parties to explore these options. However, public land transfers need to go through a rigorous process with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), tribal nations, local community leaders, and other necessary parties to ensure the best outcome for all involved. There are many unanswered questions about this legislation, which is why it was tabled in Committee and will not move forward at the Senate this year. Contrary to any unfounded rumors, our positions have not changed.”
