Monday Afternoon Flooding Update

April 24, 2023 News -- KRJB-KRJM-KKCQ 0

As we continue to monitor the flooding situation in the region, Norman County Emergency Manager Garry Johanson tells us that river levels are slowly going down. He spoke to R&J News around 11:30 Monday morning.

Here are the river levels as of mid-afternoon:  The Red River at Halstad is just over 34 feet. That’s eight feet above flood stage.  Water levels on the Red are holding steady and the river is expected to recede very slowly over the next week.

The Wild Rice River at Hendrum is also receding.  It’s at 26.8 feet..with flood stage at 20 feet. Again, the National Weather Service expects the Wild Rice will recede slowly….with water levels dropping three feet during the week.

Over in Hillsboro, the Goose River is below flood stage..at 6.87 feet–flood stage is ten feet. The Goose River is expected to get down to five feet by Wednesday and then rise again to about seven feet by late Friday.

The Sandhill River at Climax is just above flood stage at 20 and a half feet…with flood stage being 20 feet.  Once again, a slow decline is expected with the Sandhill getting below flood stage Saturday afternoon.
