Monday Flooding Update
R&J News reached out to Norman County Emergency Manager Garry Johanson for the latest on the flood situation in Norman County.
Johanson later told us that there is water over the road on Highway 9, five miles north of Ada, between 260th Avenue and 280th Avenue. He says there are no barricades on the highway….and that it’s not possible for two vehicles to try to pass because of the amount of water.
Checking river levels, the Marsh River near Shelly has risen sharply in the last 24 hours. As of mid-morning, the river was at 19 feet–five feet above flood stage. It’s expected to peak at 20 feet overnight.
The Red River at Halstad is now at 22.5 feet with flood stage at 26 feet. The National Weather Service predicts it will reach flood stage at Halstad Tuesday night and won’t peak until Sunday, when it is expected to reach 32.8 feet.
The Wild Rice River at Hendrum is now over flood stage at 21.98 feet (flood stage is 20 feet). It’s expected to peak early Thursday at 30.7 feet.
