Multiple Students Receive Superior and Excellent Ratings at Region 8A East Visual Arts Festival

Fosston, MN — The Region 8A East Visual Arts Festival took place at the Fosston High School on March 29th. 11 schools participated in the festival and numerous students from the area received excellent and superior ratings for their work.

Five judges, four from Bemidji State University and one from the Roseau area, judged the 160 works of art and awarded excellent and superior ratings to numerous students from Fosston, Fertile-Beltrami and Win E Mac High Schools. In order to receive a superior rating artists had to meet certain marks including, demonstrating a precise and fluent knowledge of the tools, elements, principles, and history of art. And to receive an excellent rating artists had to, make artistic choices based on evidence to improve or refine the artwork, among other things. Fertile-Beltrami received 6 excellent and 11 superior ratings. Fosston received 5 excellent and 2 superior ratings and Win E Mac received 1 excellent and 10 superior ratings.

In each of the 12 categories, one piece of art received the Spotlight on the Arts award. Those artists who received the award will have the opportunity to display their piece at the Perpich Center for the Arts in the Twins Cities in May. Annika Shimpa from Win E Mac received a Spotlight Award for her entry in the crafts category and Ella Strom, also from Win E Mac, received a Spotlight Award for her entry in the 2D Mix Media/Collage category.
