Muskie Boys Hockey Win Gold in Overtime
In Fort Frances, the Muskie Boys Hockey teams was in Kenora for the 2024-2025 NorWOSSA tournament and Friday and Saturday, February 28th to March 1st. In the Semifinals on Friday, the Muskie Boys team would smash their semi final opponent Red Lake Rams 11-2. Jackson Tucker, Blake Kreger, and Callum McCormick would each score 2 goals. Then, Aiden Jean, Dakota Cooper, Trent Friesen, Jack Davis, and Griffin Webb all scored singles as Jarrett Aucoin was in goal.
For the finals on Saturday the Muskies would put on a barn burner as the Muskie Boys would have to take things to an extra period as they beat Dryden 4-3 in overtime. The game was back and forth as Aiden Jean scored a first period goal, then Trent Friesen had a second period goal. Finally, Niko Ruppenstein would score both of his 2 goals at the end as he tied it at 11:15 in the third, then scored 52 seconds into overtime off a scramble at the side of the net to send the Muskie Boys to OFSAA.
Jarrett Aucoin got the win in goal for the first Muskie boys title since 2023. They are heading to the OFSAA all-Ontario single and double A championships in Sudbury from March 18-20.
