Naytawaush Man Accused Of Killing 2 Pets

NAYTAWAUSH, MN—A man from Naytawaush is accused of threatening a woman and then killing two of her pets. 44-year-old Lyman Ray Weaver was charged Monday in Mahnomen County District Court with six felonies: one count of second degree assault with a dangerous weapon, felony threats of violence, three counts of felony animal torture and felony failure to appear.  According to the criminal complaint, a Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Sergeant responded to a Naytawaush residence on Sunday, August 2nd after a report of a disturbance involving animal stabbings.  The victim told the sergeant that Weaver arrived at her home intoxicated…and he was not supposed to be there because of an active warrant.  Weaver allegedly threatened to stab the woman if she didn’t buy him alcohol.  The complaint says Weaver pushed her out of her house and said he was going to kill all of her animals.  When she came around to the front of the house, she found her kitten had been killed and thrown into the yard.  The victim entered the home and saw Weaver stabbing one of her dogs.  The responding sergeant saw the dead cat in the yard, a black dog inside the home with stab wounds that was still alive, and a brown and white pitbull that appeared to have died from multiple stab wounds.  The black dog was later euthanized at the victim’s request.  Weaver was later found hiding in a camper on his mother’s property in Waubun and was taken into custody.
