New regulations in place for 2026 Fishing Opener
The Minnesota Fishing Opener is this weekend, and area anglers are reminded that some things may be different this year, as new regulations are in place. Nathan Olson of the Minnesota DNR Fisheries Department says one of the biggest changes from last year is that Minnesota now has a year round catch and release bass season, as well as a trout season.
Olson says anglers should also be aware of the state’s new e-licensing rules as well.
There have been talks about a change to the walleye bag limit changing, but Olson says nothing has been finalized, and that it’s still being discussed.
More information about the Minnesota fishing season can be seen on the Minnesota DNR website www.dnr.state.mn.us.
