Norman County Commission to Host Public Hearing on Potential Redistricting
Ada, MN — After the most recent Census update, it appears that a redistricting may be in order for the Norman County Commission in order to provide more equal representation. Currently Norman County is split into five districts, with four of those each representing a respective corner of the county and the fifth representing only the city of Ada. However, the population disparity is growing between District 4, the city of Ada, and District 3, which surrounds Ada and includes the southwest corner of Norman County. District 4 Commissioner LeeAnn Hall says they will need to act quickly to realign the district with election deadlines just a few months away.
An official plan to add more population to District 3 has not been presented yet, but it appears the most likely option would be to remove the area south of Highway 200/Thorpe Avenue in the city of Ada and add it to District 3. Commissioner Hall says that option was talked about following the 2010 census as well.
A public hearing regarding the redistricting will be held during the April 5th Norman County Board of Commissioners meeting, but an exact time has not yet been announced.
