North American Ice Fishing Championship Set to Return to Pinehurst Resort
Naytahwaush, MN — The North American Ice Fishing Circuit returns to Pinehurst Resort next weekend for their championship event, December 17th and 18th. Roughly 45-50 two-person teams will be fishing two area lakes in hopes of bagging 4 big crappies and bluegills each day and taking home a ring. Pinehurst has been the host site for the last several years, but the lakes the angler’s fish on changes from year to year. NAIFC Director Mike Howe says this year the competitions will return to Snider Lake and for the first time ever, Big Elbow Lake.
The tournament is a big boost for the area, bringing anglers in from all over the ice-belt states. Not only does the tournament give back to community economically, but also through philanthropy.
Howe adds that you’ll start seeing more anglers scouting the lakes leading up to the championship weekend, but actually they’ve been scouting the lakes since this summer and most of the time without dropping a line.
NAIFC Director Mike Howe was the featured guest on this past week’s R & J Outdoors Show. We’ll have more news on the tournament as it draws closer.
