North Dakota News Cooperative’s political opinion poll shows heavy support for Donald Trump and disapproval of new abortion laws.
The North Dakota News Cooperative published a poll on Tuesday that polled 517 North Dakota residents and asked them their opinions on many issues and topics heading into the 2024 Election. The survey polled residents on a plethora of topics including opinions on the abortion laws, presidential candidates, ballot initiatives, and approval of public officials and politicians.
With the Presidential Election coming up next November there was a big focus on the candidates and the survey shows that there is still a large preference and support for the Republican Party and former President Donald Trump in the state. According to the poll Trump is currently the preferred presidential candidate with 36% of pollers saying that they are definitely or leaning toward supporting Trump. President Joe Biden is in second with 19%, and Doug Burgum in third with 15%. Ron Desantis (9%), Nikki Haley (6%), Robert Kennedy Jr. (4%), and Vivek Ramaswamy (2%) round out the rest of the poll with 12% of pollers being undecided.
The presidential election wasn’t the only election topic that was discussed as the poll also asked participants about their opinions on abortion. During the latest state legislative session North Dakota passed an abortion ban on all abortions after the first six weeks of pregnancy unless it would save the life of the mother. The poll found that 45% of participants strongly or somewhat supported the new law while 48% strongly or somewhat disagreed with the new law with 7% of participants being undecided.
