Minneapolis, MN — A number of teams from the Northern Minnesota Robotics Conference will be participating in this weekend’s State Robotics Meet at the Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus. Teams from Brainerd, Warroad, Greenbush-Middle River, Babbit, Pequot Lakes, and Keliher will represent the Northern conference and R & J Broadcasting had the opportunity to speak with several of the teams over a zoom call in preparation of the Minnesota High School League sponsored tournament.

Students from the Bog Bots team from Keliher explain how the competition works.

Unlike other stick and ball sports, small schools like Northwoods and Babbit will compete on the same level as much larger districts such as Edina and Duluth, and for some of those small schools the robotics meet might be the only activity they get the opportunity to compete in at a state level.

Teams will arrive in the Twin Cities Friday to unload their equipment and robots and will begin qualifying rounds at 8:30am on Saturday. A random draw will determine alliance team composition for preliminary rounds. The top four teams will be selected based upon their score, and those four teams will select their alliance partners for the finals.
