Officer Identified In Monday Shooting Near Crookston
Here’s an update to a story R&J News has been following this week. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has identified the law enforcement officer who shot at the man who was fleeing from police Monday morning near Crookston. The officer is Crookston Police Officer Sean Murphy, who has been with the department for seven years. Murphy has been placed on critical incident leave.
On Monday, 34-year-old Caleb Coffey of Oklahoma led law enforcement on a chase from the Pembina Port of Entry in North Dakota into Minnesota before he was stopped west of Crookston. According to the BCA, Coffey left his vehicle while holding a handgun. Officer Murphy shot at Coffey, causing a non-life-threatening injury that required Coffey be taken to the hospital.
Coffey is in custody in the Northwest Regional Corrections Center in Crookston; he was arrested for second degree assault.
