Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes working to creating volunteerism opportunities, end hunger stigma

Creating more community outreach and support through volunteer programs that run deep in the Lakes Area was the message extended out in our monthly conversation with the Lakes Area United Way.

We spoke to Executive Director for the Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes’ Shawn Hansen about the group and how they serve the community through their meal programs.

Hansen mentioned Outreach Program is aiming to break the stigma of hunger happening in just low income homes and bring light to the issue in the Brainerd Lakes Area.

The Outreach Program, one of the many partners with the Lakes Area United Way, wants to create volunteer opportunities and allow the community to be part of their work.

Hansen says her work with the United Way over the years has been geared to giving more opportunity for expansion of their programs.
