Perley to Receive Federal Funding to Speed Up Road Raise Project
Ada, MN — Good news for the City of Perley and their Flood Protection efforts! The Wild Rice Watershed District recently received notice that FEMA has approved 90% of funding for the Perley road raises. The road raises are the last step in allowing the Perley dike to become FEMA certified and providing flood insurance relief for residents of the town. Without the funding, the road raises would not have been done until likely 2029, but Wild Rice Watershed Manager Tara Jensen says this greatly speeds up the process.
The Wild Rice Watershed will now begin coordinating with the Minnesota Department of Transportaiton, Norman County, and the City of Perley to get the project moving forward and acquire right of way access in the coming months.
And while it will save Perley residents money to not have to buy flood insurance, the biggest advantage of the road raises is that the community will now become completely protected from flooding.
The overall project is estimated at $3.75 million and now just under $3.4 million will be coming from Federal funding. The Red River Watershed and Wild Rice Watershed will pick up the rest of the tab for the road raises.
