Polk County Commission Still Exploring Options with Climax & Nielsville Bridges
Climax, MN — With both the Climax and Nielsville bridges in need of replacement, Polk County continues to push for legislative funding and work with the State of North Dakota and Traill County to find a solution to move forward. However, during a recent KKCQ Food for Thought Program, Polk County Commissioner Joan Lee stated that Traill County is no longer interested in replaced the closed Nielsville bridge. Lee adds that both bridges are vital for safety and transportation of goods.
Lee says this isn’t the first time they’ve had to work with North Dakota on a bridge replacement and it can be a challenge working with a county in another state as they are dealing with different means of funding and often have different priorities.
The Climax bridge was built in 1957 and currently has load limits and the Nielsville bridge was built in 1939 and was closed in 2015.
